Setting goals

The short version

Outcome goals give you direction. Action goals give you something to do today.

You need both.

The full version

Outcome vs action

An outcome goal is the result you want — lose 10 kg, squat 100 kg, make the team. An action goal is what you'll actually do — train three times a week and improve your food habits.

Why action goals matter

Outcomes are influenced by lots of things you don't fully control. Actions are things you can tick off this week. Hitting your action goals consistently is usually what moves the outcome.

Keep reviewing

Check in every few weeks. Are the actions happening? Are they moving you towards the outcome? Adjust one thing at a time.

What actually matters

Pick one outcome, set two or three action goals you can control, and review them regularly. MIND // PERFORMANCE uses the same idea — action goals only.
